The design for this unusual sofa seat is attributed to William Morris and his apprentice and successor Henry Dearle. A watercolour of the design (1880-1890) is at the William Morris Gallery. A panel was woven in about 1910 by Morris & Co after the death of Morris and while Dearle was running the company.
The design, doubled and mirror-imaged, is now available as a one piece rug.
Again there is sufficient space around the printed canvas to stitch a 3" (7.5cm) border.
This is not printed on the canvas, but may be purchased as a separate needlepoint kit consisting of coloured charts and wools.
The Kit contains:
CANVAS: 12#/in Zweigart White de luxe canvas, 26 x 60" (66 x 152cm).
DESIGN: 15 x 47.5" (38 x 120.5cm). Printed in 36 Colours (Design with border: 21 x 53.5", 53.5 x 136cm)
WOOLS: Appleton tapestry and crewel. 1 thread of tapestry for the design, 4 threads of crewel for the background.
STITCH: Tent stitch.
