Creative sewing under the Christmas tree

Looks like weeks are flying away, when Holidays are getting closer! TV maybe paying its part – starting with commercials about Xmas cakes, toys and Season’s decorations in October already - and our “wish to do” even more, getting ready for the brightest Season of the year is also getting more and more involving! This is also why, we have thought our fourth “Saturday at Casa Cenina” had to be something with a “traditional Xmas atmosphere” and this means the chance to create something special for us and our homes (or for someone we love or her/his home!) And since that something has o be special not just in its name, but mainly as a matter of fact, we have asked someone special to share that Saturday – the 3rd of December - with us: a real lady of Italian patchwork, who has turned this international art into her inspired job, marking it with deep creativity, though at anybody’s reach.

She’s Patrizia Girlanda: straight from Veneto, a celebrated quilter in both national and international quilt contests and skillful expert of chenille patchwork… But don’t let yourself be intimidated by this technical/creative “blazon” of hers, for Patrizia is the portrait of merrymaking and with her unique sweetness and a smile for everyone, her teaching way is pure communication!!! And her classes, in fact, go far beyond words: you’ll be spellbound by the movements of her hands and eyes, longing to share with you their skillful gestures and with that look running precisely along threads and fabrics, sewing them into the most unexpected – simple though striking – realizations

On our open day, Patrizia is going to show you don’t need to be a “genius” to approach creative sewing, since technical skill is going to be achieved with time and practice (and you’ll be more than tempted to make some practice, after attending her class, believe me!). You’ll just need your will to learn curiosity and “creative spring”, to realize – in just an hour – a lovely, brand new Xmas cookie pouch! Our quilter, in fact, has thought about Holidays delicacies, proposing a quilt project ideal both for “wrapping” your gingerbread men, or for any other traditional treat

Also – and this is right where we’re widening the horizons of our Advent – you’ll be able to fill your patchwork with a selection of the Tuscan fine foods sold by Dhemetra, the owner of the “Taverna dei Briganti” (literally: the “Bandits’ Den”) – a (a)typical inn just a few meters form our warehouse – and more than expert cook, able to tickle even the most demanding palates with the original tastes of our Casentino area and anything tasty in Tuscany! From cold pork meat and sausages – still in the home-made style – to vegetable and fruit preserves; from the sauces for the most tempting “bruschette”, to the classical “cantuccini” cookies to plunge into a glass of good, red wine! You’ll just have an embarrassing wealth of options!

Well, and if you’re just not greedy (sure about that??!!??) you’ll love your patchwork anyway, since the way it comes makes it perfect to be used as a pot-cover for your Poinsettias or your decorated Christmas Tree

You’ll choose the fabric for your creation among the hundreds bolts we have in stock… But, during the class, you’ll be taught exactly how to cut and sew it, as well as how to us the iron on volume fleece batting, as well as to finish it with the most innovative materials, such as the Decovil, conceived to make fabrics thicker and sturdier and therefore perfect not only for our Saturday, but even for your Xmas presents, such as amazing bags for you and your friends, for example!
