Kay Cavnar stitches for Lilybet Designs

Date Added: 01/04/2012

Lilybet DesignsKay Cavnar got closer and closer to the world of needlepoint, when she was just seven years old, thanks to the loving patience of her grandmother, who taught her how to cross stitch on some pre-printed canvases. From needlepoint, she then moved to crochet and creative sewing, trying virtually any kind of embroidery.

However, it was thanks to a neighbor of hers, that Kay approached the world of samplers that have now definitely become the leading subject of her art and brand, called Lilybet Designs. And among Kay's most appreciated works, we can find, in fact, her Lilybet's sampler which, just like the other patterns of this kind, has been inspired by ancient designs. Kay loves history, as you can easily understand from Tribute Sampler, but easier subjects, too, such as flowers - even in unusual forms funky - and she's also fond of Christmas patterns. From being a shop-assistant in a craft and haberdashery shop, Kay has gradually become a successful needlework designer throughout the US, most of all after winning a contest in the reference industry.

And if you're wondering where the name Lilybet comes from, that's easy to say: it's the nickname of her granddaughter Elizabeth, who was born just when Kay was establishing her business
