Let’s go ahead with our travel through American needlework, between Quaker patterns and Stars and Stripes. We’re in Florida, this time, wandering around Pensacola, among the main towns in this State and well-known for its bay and ever-crowded beach. That’s where Kathy Rees, the Californian designer who has established the brand Needle Delights Originals has been living since 1993. Following tradition (not just the US tradition, but tradition all over the world), Kathy learned knitting, crocheting, sewing and stitching thanks to the fond teaching of her mother, who had opened a needlework shop in the Seventies, to follow her passion for craft. Unfortunately, that shop was destroyed by hurricane Ivan in 2004 and Kathy tried to continue her mom’s work, establishing a new business – with sewing and stitching classes included - in 2005. With this new shop of hers, a new brand was born as well Needle Delights Originals since Kathy managed, right from the start, to sell the little patterns she created for her classes in her new shop, too. As time has gone by, relying on the congrats she has always received from her customers, Kathy has created several projects, arranged in series, such as the renowned collection Color Delights. Everything originated from the monthly supplies Kathy used to receive at her shop. Each color shade was linked to a project to be realized with the so-called canvaswork technique, matching different color studies and textures. The style of Needle Delights Originals is actually a particular one, making use of counted stitching, but achieving results looking more like the typical blocks of patchwork, rather than like “classical” needlework. As a matter of fact, this pattern Lollipops seems to have been created using a jelly roll and, even more, this wonderful panel Aquamarine. As suggested by its name Needle Delights Originals doesn’t offer ordinary patterns at all!
