| Patchwork is an ancient art - somebody even dates it back to the first centuries of the Egyptian civilization - though the tradition presently most widespread is the American, casting its roots into the patient and devoted work, handwork, of many women who, from 1700 on, began reparing clothes and blankets with the poor means they had at their own disposal: small patches of fabrics from old clothes and even from the sacks used at that time to store sugar, coffee and wheat. It is thanks to the inventiveness of these foremothers of ours - since, to be true, they were mainly wifes, mothers, sisters, cousins and aunts of the European settlers who had reached the New World in those days - that today we can please ourselves with colors, shapes and several patches, to create something unique and modern, so with such "past" origins at the same time! For those who already love patchwork and quilting - the typical work that's great friends with the former one - and for those who still have to discover it, we welcome you in the right place! |
