At the same time as the Arts & Crafts Movement was active in Europe, the nomadic Cossack tribes in the Caucasus region between the Black and Caspian Seas were weaving their own distinctive and colourful rugs. The name "Cossack" derives from the Turkish word "kazak" which means "free man" or "adventurer".
Morris and his comptempories were all heavily influenced by the styles of the East. Beth Russell has taken these influences and designed this delightfully simple rug.
The fringe is provided as a continuous roll for you to cut to your chosen lengths; each length is then attached to the rug in a similar manner to the string on traditional luggage labels.
