William Morris was a great designer and prolific writer. He was offered the title of Poet Laureate but refused it, leaving the post open to Tennyson.
Lodden was designed by William Morris as a cotton or linen fabric and was printed at his works in Merton Abbey in 1884. The printing was done by hand, using hand-carved blocks usually made of pear wood.
Beth Russell has adapted Lodden into two needlepoint kits. Each is beautifully printed on strong polished de luxe canvas which is large enough to be made into either cushions or chair seats.
Kit includes:CANVAS: 14#/in Zweigart White Mono De Luxe, 22x26" (56x66cm).
DESIGN: 11x14" (28x35cm).
WOOLS: Appleton crewel
