Wool and Color: Joy and Happiness
Among the several new products that I had the privilege to see at the Nashville Trade Fair, I must admit that my favorite ones are the hand-dyed woolen fabrics by Weeks Dye Works
: they literally struck me and I cannot but talk about them a bit
The first characteristic of these fabrics is their touch: they are as soft as the woolen muslins of our grandmother's dresses!
However also the colors are astounding: a lot of them, for all tastes and occasions- like in the best tradition of Weeks Dye Works
– they are rigorously hand-dyed, but all colorfast since they do not loose their color when washed. This is, as a lot of you that love hand-dyed threads and fabrics may know, a very important aspect!
Moreover, if this is not enough, they are available in three different wefts, all modular one with the other: plain weft, herringbone weft and a nice and new pié de poule
squared weft. All of them, as I was saying, are available in different shade colors which can be combined together. For example, here is the sage green: HB Dried Sage
, Dried Sage
e HT Dried Sage
How do we use these 100% wool fabrics? Infinite are the solutions and your imagination is the only criterion to use!
For instance, with some simple right seams, we can unite together some 10x10 cm squares in different shades and wefts, in order to obtain a fantastic plaid to put on our sofas, with a hem in a noble tissue like velvet and corduroy
Why don't you match it with an old pair of jeans that you had to throw away and save the upper part by fastening the different woollen cloths in order to create a bag to wear with a beautiful classic jacket and a matching beret? If you choose a similar creation, bag, beret and a simple skirt (if you are able to use the sewing machine) and if you want to decorate it with something really particular, perfect are the pins by Kelmscott
, brand new products from the United States: HAT PINS
By contrast, if you want to sew less but you love weird pins and colorful woollen cloths, you can obtain some little jewels -to give to your friends or to keep all for you!- like the following: Pine Tree Pins
These are whimsical needles which is just a pity to close up in a threads box
Keep all of them on a shelf in your house, just like some decorations and I guarantee to you that they will catch everybody's attention!
They are really easy to create!
Here are the Weeks Dye Works woollen cloths
So here are the Just Pins
by Just Another Button
(all taken, once again, at the Nashville Trade Fair!).
Finally, a last piece of advice: with the same needles and some squares of the Weeks Dye Works wools
, cut with thesespecial scissors
you can create some little masterpieces.
It will be very easy, quick and funny to create also some little “memos” or cards to pin with a nice needle your packs or your embroideries!
A big hug
