A rainbow made of threads

Amann MettlerIn my childhood memories, there are images that - quite unexplainably - are literally crystallized. They're stuck in my mind in such a clear way, that they still seem to be real, even though more than three decades have gone, since I was a child!
Among those memories there's, definitely that of a little haberdashery store, just a few steps away from my family's home: a sort of "institution" in the area where we used to live, for everybody used to shop there and that was pretty much more than a mere shop... I'd rather say an important "meeting point" Well, I can still remember the wonderful feeling, whenever I stepped into that little store, plunging into that colorful world represented by those chest of drawers full of threads, covering all the walls of that magical place, for that was exactly so to my child's eyes! And, as clearly, I can remember those colored, little spools, all in color order, made the atmosphere so charming In my child's thoughts, I used to think the rainbow (a mystery of nature, to me at that time!) had to come from the charming shades of those threads, which I was not allowed to touch, of course, but which were already so spellbinding just to look at!!!

Maybe, this is the reason why, when here at CasaCenina we decided to stock a whole range of sewing threads, in all their possible versions - including machine embroidery and quilting - I was immediately thrilled!
And just try to figure out when, just a couple of weeks ago, we were delivered all those chests of drawers... All of a sudden, I felt a little one once again, while, holding my mum's hand, I used to enter that little shop, to buy something that would have certainly turned into another dress for me or my Barbie
And those chests of drawers were delivered by one of the leading German brands in the industry of floss, Amann Group Mettler, whose motto, amazingly enough, is exactly "Colors. Threads. Fantasy"!!!

And fantasy can't be but triggered, just looking at these little spools! There's more than just a color for any need and possible employ!
They range from the unmissable "sew all", made of 100% soft and resistant polyester, Seralon, launched by Amann in 1954, as the first polyester floss in the market, which we have stocked in his 100 version as well as in its 30 one, expressly designed for button holes and decorative sewing; to the threads born under the sign of brightness and gloss, typically used for machine embroidery, though not strictly reserved to this such as the so-called Poly Sheen, 200 meters of glossy liveliness, with a much larger surface, to reflect light at best; and the Metallic a mixture of polyester and polyamide, available in 12 metallic colors, able to create a three-dimensional game of lights and shadows.

Of course, we couldn't miss the quilting floss by Amann Group Mettler, since - as you already know - we've always had a soft spot for quilting So, quilters are going to find her two brand new proposals for their creativity: Quilting 150 and Quilting 150, waxed. The former one is 150 meters of pure, long-fiber, Egyptian cotton, in weight 40, ideal both for the quilters who love their quilting to be evident, as well as for those who prefer their quilting to be more discrete no matter if hand made of machine made.
The latter is 150 meters of a mixed cotton/polyester fiber, waxed with a special procedure, so that the resulting floss is highly smooth and slips very well even through the most compact layers of fabrics, for a perfect hand quilting.

These threads have made the history of Amann Group Mettler since 1883, when this company was born as a simple embroidery business (another coincidence, making it so close to CasaCenina!), manufacturing tablecloths. This business was later extended to include a spinning mill that produced the necessary embroidery floss. In the 1950s, the embroidery shop was dissolved and the company concentrated from then onwards on the production of high-quality sewing threads. A comprehensive range of sewing and embroidery threads developed over the course of time and was crowned by the launch of the Seralon, while Amann also became the first sewing floss manufacturer to offer the so-called '3 thread concept' (silk, cotton, polyester). The rest is recent history, which we - proudly - feel now to be part, as well!
