Fat quarter patchwork fabrics

Just a curiosity: usually these fabrics are sold in the classic cut fat quarter, in other words 1/4 of a yard cut (about 1 meter). By the way, if you check for it, you will notice that 1/4 of a yard is in fact 45 cm x 56 cm (18" x 22"). The fat quarter, as the name suggests, is a bigger fourth that actually measures 50 x 55 cm.
