Polyester batting: let's talk about it!

Hobbs, Fix & FertigHi Folks!
Just some weeks have gone by, since the beginning of the New Year and of our new adventure with Hobbs battings, thought the work needed to update this range is growing up virtually every day!

The adventure has started and is going on as a partner of the European distributor of these 100% Texan products: the German company Fix & Fertig, whom we had been having among our closest suppliers for some years before, since they deal exclusively with retailers and they've been representing - for longer than some years, in this case, actually - the reference point for importing and distributing quilting battings in the Old Continent.

Just like Casa Cenina, Fix & Fertig too was born from the successful union of different skills: on the one side, those concerning patchwork (Fix & Fertig were among the first ones to open a quilt studio in Europe, fully equipped with a long-arm machine, to quilt everything for end customers - both shop owners and private quilters, and to spread this art even on this side of the Atlantic!), together with those of logistics that Fix & Fertig owner has been developing with his 40 years' logistics business located in San Francisco, where - of course - patchwork and quilting are considered as a national heritage

So, the partnership between two companies like ours, with such similar foundations, based o the magical alchemy of different types of know-how that get perfectly joined together, was probably meant to be!

At present, the lines from Hobbs you can find in our catalog are the two "feathers in the cap", which this brand has become worldwide renowned for - Tuscany and Heirloom - adding to the "easy and relaxed" Poly Down, of 100% polyester.

And it's exactly on these ones, which we'd like to give you some more details (though, rest reassured that we'll find the time and opportunity to go very in depth even on the "nobler" fibers of the other, above-mentioned battings!).

As a matter of fact, polyester is often considered as the "Cinderella" of battings, but this range from Hobbs is going to have also the most immovable ones change their mind
Forget that idea of "stiffness", polyester has often been associated with, so far!
In years of research and development, the Texan group, in fact, has managed to create an extremely soft and silky polyester, based on special silicon, slick fibers, making this polyester similar to the levels of softness and crafting convenience typical of silk.
And everything with the remarkable advantage - crucial if you quilt things that will have to be often washed, such as those for babies - that polyester is 100% suitable for machine washing
The manufacturing process behind these battings is one of the five (you bet, we will describe them all, as well in the next future!) used by Hobbs for all their battings: the so-called "binding" with a specific resin, minimizing fiber migration and thus keeping your quilt unchanged in time, both in terms of resistance (and in this sense, too, bear in mind polyester is absolutely comparable to silk!) and in terms of softness.
Mainly if you're taking your very first steps in the wonderful world of patchwork, these inexpensive, though top-quality, battings are definitely the best choice.

Just one last suggestion: remember they are conceived mainly to quilt with dark or medium-dark fabrics and should be quilted between 4" and 6" apart.

Talk to you soon again and... Happy quilting!
