The Pixies by Permin of Copenhagen
The Pixies, also known as Pixy or Pixi or better Piskies or Pigsies, are little creatures living in the Cornwall and Devon woods. Their origin is quite surely Celtic, even if the name "pixie" should come from the Swedish "pyske", meaning "little fairy". Actually, the pixies are little gnomes with pointed hat and ears who live in the magic and mythological Northern folklore.
According to the legend, the Pixies were the "baby-sitters" of the peasant's children during the Victorian Era. They amused them with dances and short performances until they fall asleep at the sound of their lullabies played with the flute. Moreover, they were a real blessing for the housewives as they helped them with the housework: cleaning the windows, feeding animals, cooking and so on.
Pixies are usually associated to the image of Santa Claus as they are represented as their helpers. They are described as gnomes preparing packs and writing greeting cards for the children all over the world. From this image are inspired the new kits by Permin of Copenhagen: charts, instructions, needle, aida fabric, DMC threads and frame just to decorate our house at Christmas time!
