Baby blue "doudou"

A soft, pure-cotton towel, to be purchased about one month before the birth of our little one and left in our bed, so that it can take on our smell. Then, when our baby is born, it'll be enough to leave the "doudou" always close to him/her, so that the newborn can always feel mum (or dad) next to him/her, preventing him/her from stress. In fact, the newborn can't understand the difference between his/her mom in the flesh and an object with her smell. Later on, when the baby grows up, the doudou turns into what the English pediatrician and psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott used to define as a "transitional object", i.e. the very first thing that's not part of the baby's body anymore, but experienced by him/her as the very first thing detached from him/her and leading to his/her first, rudimentary experience of him/herself as an individual in the world. A small thought, very tender and useful, for any newborn.
