For fun and… For therapy!
Hi Folks :-) Yesterday, in our FaceBook page, we were suddenly displayed a very interesting article, that seemed to have been written expressly to catch our attention! A recent neuroscience research shows that knitting and crocheting, as well as other forms of textile crafting - such as stitching and/or sewing - have a very positive impact on our mind health and general wellbeing. In an online survey on over 3500 knitters, carried out by the UK therapist Betsan Corkhill, a specialist in the study of the therapeutic effects of knitting, more than half the people interviewed stated that they feel "very happy", thanks to this hobby. Even more: the survey has highlighted a significant relationship between the frequency of knitting and the feeling and mood perceived by these respondents. As a matter of fact, those who are used to knitting more than three times a week were more relaxed, happier, less sad and anxious and, most of all, more confident. It has also been found that people who knitted in group were even happier than solo knitters and this applies to any kind of crafting, including stitching and scrapbooking :-) Neurosciences say so! So here are the 10 ways crafting with friends can improve our body and soul wellbeing, as the were listed in the article: 1 mental challenge and problem solving; 2 social connection; 3 mindfulness; 4 development of hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness and dine motor dexterity; 5 learning and teaching; 6 focusing attention and thoughts on a task; 7 encouraging active creativity; 8 gives a sense of pride and achievement; 9 teaching patience and perseverance; 10 facilitates memory formation and retrieval. Several neuroscientist are now likening crafting to a sort of "stepping into a positive state of flow", which the psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi has defined as a “a state of concentration or complete absorption with the activity at hand and the situation, where people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter.”. According to some researchers, even Albert Einstein was reputed to have knitted between projects to "calm his mind and clear his thinking"! That's fab! If we haver needed one more reason to take ourselves some time for our passion... Well, we've got it now ;-) And it's a scientific one!!! Hear from us soon ;-) ###TIRALOSU### ...
