October 2nd is World Smile Day, and this year it falls on a Friday, a day when we smile more willingly, given that the weekend is just around the corner.
In 1963, the artist Harvey Ball created the famous "smile" symbol, the yellow smiling face known all over the world as the "Smiley", and in 1999 he decided to turn it into an annual observance dedicated to smiling and acts of kindness: one more opportunity to show a bit of optimism by smiling, giving smiles away, and enjoying the sense of well-being that kindness brings.
