Crewel Wool Hank - Kingfisher 488 (484)

25 g hank (unlabelled), about 180 m (197 yd), of Appleton Crewel Wool (2 ply), pure British wool dyed and spun in the UK: good value for larger projects.
It is the finer of Appleton's two wools (the company has been making yarn since 1835): ideal for Jacobean-style crewel embroidery and fine detail; several strands in the needle give fuller coverage, also on fine canvas, and two shades together create subtle blends. The colours are the same as in the thicker Tapestry Wool. The wool should not be washed: if needed, sponge it with cold water. Keep your work out of direct sunlight.
