An embroidering journey
It often happens to travel by train. Just for pleasure in order to visit a far town or for the joy of meeting one's relatives. By the way, even if sometimes trains make us angry with all their delays, they are maybe one of the most relaxing means of transport
In fact almost everybody loves sleeping between a stop and the other and how many books have you read on the train?
Maybe the most beautiful readings are those made on the seats of an old and ruined coach!
So, just on a train we can spend some time doing our favorite hobby, that pass-time which does not make us think about everyday's frenzy: embroidery. For those who travel a lot (commuters, both students and workers) and for those who cannot stay calm and look at the moving landscape out of the window, a wonderful solution to relax during the journey is embroidering.
Essential are small and very useful instruments like the thread-gatherer, the scissor-fobs, the travel organizers…
Necessary are cutters like this one by DMC in vintage style
, the jewel by Clover with a thread cutter
and the ring with cutter for the threads by Clover
. All with a blade in inox white metal, they are fundamental to easily and quickly cut the thread. More comfortable and less dangerous than the scissors: a real risk for our fingers if put in our bag during a journey!
For such a reason DMC
has also created its Vintage scissors fob
. Elegant and with a rétro style, this fob protects the points and it allows you to put your scissors in your bag with no risk. And always by DMC
the practical needles case
, once again in vintage style and very useful to collect, organize and avoid to lose (above all!) your needles.
Finally a unique and fundamental accessory if you like embroidering during the journey is this little necklace for accessories
, with glass beads, handmade and golden. Hang on it scissors, cutters and needle-cases. Everything will actually be in your hands!
How to organize your threads
Organizing our threads is not so easy! Sometimes even in the organizers
it is difficult to order the several skeins without mixing all colors. For such a reason, some enterprises like Kelmscott Design
, specialized in making embroiderers' life simpler, have created some useful instruments called Thread Rings
which make it possible to better wind your threads. So, other than the classic bobbins
and the useful (even if not so beautiful) plastic bags
, we can find on sale some very nice thread organizers. Here are then the Thread Ring-Hearts
and the Thread Ring-Round
both in mother-pearl: each skein will thus have its own little ring! If, by contrast you want to organize the threads according to different color shades or to have in only one keeper all the threads necessary for the same embroidery, the best solution are the Thread Keeps
, not some rings, but surfaces of different shapes with holes for the skeins. For the most romantic types, here is the Heart
, whereas for the most practical girls here is the Sampler House
and for those who are sweeter, here is a Strawberry
. And if you are looking for more particular shapes, like a surprised cat
or a green fog
, just have a look on the original thread-keepers by Tri Fils
