Labelled skein of about 25 m (27 yd) of Appleton Crewel Wool (2 ply), pure British wool dyed and spun in the UK.
It is the finer of Appleton's two wools (the company has been making yarn since 1835): ideal for Jacobean-style crewel embroidery and fine detail; several strands in the needle give fuller coverage, also on fine canvas, and two shades together create subtle blends. The colours are the same as in the thicker Tapestry Wool. The wool should not be washed: if needed, sponge it with cold water. Keep your work out of direct sunlight.

Description

403 Sea Green is a skein of Appleton Crewel Wool, the finer 2-ply wool spun from pure British fleece. It is the classic thread for crewel and Jacobean embroidery: it follows fine detail closely and, with two or more lengths in the needle, gives fuller coverage, including needlepoint on fine canvas. Two different shades in the same needle let you mix your own tones.

Appleton colours are grouped into named ranges, within which the shades run from light to dark; the shade number is printed on the skein label. Below are the closest shades, useful for shading or for replacing a colour.
