A meadow of poppies and wildflowers in soft shades, with butterflies and a bee, worked on a pale evenweave fabric that gives the design room to breathe. Alongside the cross stitch there are long stitches for the slender stems and grasses, and back stitch to outline the details: two straightforward techniques, explained in the instructions.
Evenweave is stitched over two threads, and its regular weave helps keep the stitches even; with 30 colours the petals shade gently from one tone to the next. A hoop or frame and a sharp pair of embroidery scissors make the work easier. The frame is not included: once washed and pressed from the back, the finished piece suits a simple frame with a light mount.
