The design is printed straight onto the runner: you stitch over the printed colours, which wash out once the work is finished, so there is no counting on the fabric. The hem and the inwoven border are already made up, so after a gentle wash and a press on the wrong side the runner is ready for the table.
Alongside cross stitch there are a few outline stitches, stem stitch and back stitch, explained in the instructions, which makes this a manageable project with limited experience. An embroidery frame and a small pair of scissors make the work easier. The seaside motif suits a summer table or a holiday home, and makes a welcome gift too.
