Please note: natural fabrics such as linen and cotton are dyed in batches and come in different counts (with more or fewer threads per 1 cm in the case of linen and evenweaves, and more or fewer squares per 10 cm in the case of Aida). Different production batches and different counts may show color variations, even when the fabric is under the same color name. In the textile industry, this is considered completely normal, especially for so-called “vintage” or antiqued fabrics. Before stitching	No pre-washing needed: cotton is stable and shrinks by 1–1.5% at most. Press out any fold lines before starting.
Washing after stitching	The grid is removed by soaking: leave the fabric in water with a mild detergent until the lines disappear (the distributor suggests about one hour at 40 °C). To protect the threads, keep to 30 °C and soak for longer instead: use a mild soap, do not rub, then rinse in plenty of cold water.
Drying and ironing	Remove excess water by rolling the fabric in a clean towel and pressing, never wringing; dry flat, in the shade, away from heat sources. Iron while still slightly damp, with the iron on the cotton setting, always from the back and with a folded soft towel under the embroidery so the stitches are not flattened.

Description

This is a close-woven Aida with clearly defined squares, suited to small and detailed work: miniatures, cards, ornaments, bookmarks and little framed pieces. The Easy Count grid marks off blocks of ten stitches, which makes counting and placing a busy chart much easier, and it rinses out in water, so plan the soak before mounting or framing the finished piece.

Work one cross stitch over each square with a single strand of stranded cotton; two strands give fuller coverage but a chunkier result. A size 26 tapestry needle suits this weave, and a hoop or frame keeps the fabric taut. Allow at least 5 cm (2 in) of spare fabric around the design for finishing.
