Please note: natural fabrics such as linen and cotton are dyed in batches and come in different counts (with more or fewer threads per 1 cm in the case of linen and evenweaves, and more or fewer squares per 10 cm in the case of Aida). Different production batches and different counts may show color variations, even when the fabric is under the same color name. Before stitching	No pre-washing needed: cotton is stable and shrinks by no more than 1-1.5% in the first wash
Removing the grid	When the piece is finished, soak it for about an hour in warm water (no hotter than 40 °C / 104 °F) with a mild detergent until the lines disappear; with threads that may bleed, keep to 30 °C and soak longer
Washing after stitching	Never above 30 °C (86 °F), mild soap for delicates, no rubbing so the threads do not bleed; rinse in plenty of cold water
Drying and ironing	Remove excess water by rolling the fabric in a clean towel and pressing, never wringing; dry flat, in the shade, away from heat sources. Iron while still slightly damp, from the back, with a soft folded towel under the embroidery so the stitches are not flattened

Description

Aida has clearly defined blocks and every stitch finds its own hole: there is no need to count single threads, so it is an easy fabric to start cross stitch on. The Easy Count version adds a washable grid that divides the surface into blocks of ten stitches, just like the squares on a chart: it helps to centre the design, to check the count on large motifs and to pick the work up again after a break.

At this count the stitches are small: one or two strands of stranded cotton are usually enough for the crosses and one for backstitch, worked with a size 26 tapestry needle. Good for framed pictures, cards, bookmarks and small accessories; leave a few centimetres of margin around the design for the frame and finishing.
