A 100% linen, woven from the finest quality flax. It is an excellent fabric for cross stitching, hem stitching, drawn work & all types of counted thread work.
Cut of 50 × 70 cm; multiples of the basic cut can be chosen from the drop-down menu below the price.
Color is closer to DMC 842 and DMC 3045 (two colours because has a stamped on hand-dyed look).
Please note: natural fabrics such as linen and cotton are dyed in batches and come in different counts (with more or fewer threads per 1 cm in the case of linen and evenweaves, and more or fewer squares per 10 cm in the case of Aida). Different production batches and different counts may show color variations, even when the fabric is under the same color name. In the textile industry, this is considered completely normal, especially for so-called “vintage” or antiqued fabrics. Therefore, if your project requires a specific shade, we invite you to contact us before placing your order, also because the online image is purely indicative and may appear very different from reality, depending on the display which it is viewed on.

Before stitching	It is worth washing the fabric before stitching, as all linens shrink by about 3% in the first wash; if the finished piece will only be framed, washing can be skipped. Apart from white and the natural shades (raw linen), never go above 35 °C.
Washing after stitching	Never above 30 °C, with soap for delicate items (or Marseille soap), without rubbing, so the threads do not bleed; rinse in plenty of cold water.
Drying and pressing	Remove excess water by rolling the linen in a clean towel and pressing down, never wringing; dry flat, in the shade, away from heat sources. Press while still slightly damp, with the iron on the linen/cotton setting, always from the back, with a soft folded towel under the embroidery so the stitches are not flattened.

Description

Cashel is an evenweave linen with a surface that keeps the slightly slubby character of flax while remaining easy to count, and a soft handle that stays pleasant even in large cuts. It suits cross stitch worked over two threads, half cross stitch, backstitch, drawn thread work, hemstitching and Hardanger, so it works well for samplers, small framed pieces, table linen, bags and cushions.

Over two threads, two strands of stranded cotton usually give good coverage for cross stitch and one strand is enough for outlines; a size 24 or 26 tapestry needle parts the threads without damaging them. Wash and press the cut before stitching, so that any shrinkage happens first, and allow 5–8 cm (2–3 in) of spare fabric around the design for framing and finishing.
