Zweigart's Linen Aida combines the square block weave of Aida with the handle of pure linen: the holes stay clearly visible and each cross stitch is worked over one square. The slightly uneven surface, with the small slubs typical of linen, gives a more rustic look than cotton Aida and suits samplers, framed pieces, small bags and hand-finished accessories.
Two strands of stranded cotton are usual for the crosses and one for backstitch, while no. 8 perle cotton gives fuller coverage. Washing the fabric before stitching is worthwhile, as linen shrinks the first time it is washed. Work with a size 24 tapestry needle, in a frame or in the hand.
