Zweigart's Soft Aida has very large blocks and a soft, draping handle, so it suits big cross stitch pieces meant to be used rather than framed: baby blankets, sofa throws, cushions and bags. The blocks and holes are easy to see, which makes it a practical ground for beginners and for stitching with children.
Large blocks call for thick threads – tapestry wool, no. 3 or no. 5 perle cotton, or all six strands of stranded cotton for solid coverage. Work with a size 18 or 20 tapestry needle and overcast or tack the edges before starting. Being a soft fabric, it behaves best on a rectangular frame or in the hand, without pulling.
