A black cat sitting among teasels, orange Chinese lanterns and tall seedheads against a blue sky: a Liane Payne design worked in half cross stitch by following the colours already printed on the canvas, with no counting involved.
Tapestry wool covers the canvas well and the work grows quickly; a few details are picked out in back stitch with stranded cotton. To turn the piece into a cushion you will need backing fabric, a cushion pad and, if you like, piping, none of which are included — velvet or a heavy cotton in a matching shade works nicely. The finished panel can also be framed or mounted on a chair seat.
