A sampler of miniature portraits: queens, scientists, writers, aviators and activists, each recognisable in just a few stitches and labelled with name, dates and role worked in backstitch. It is a long, detailed project that uses fractional stitches and French knots, so it suits a stitcher with some experience and good lighting.

The threads come ready sorted on the organiser, so no time is lost hunting for the right shade. You will also need a hoop or frame and small scissors; a picture frame is not included and can be chosen once the stitching is done, perhaps with a pale mount to set off the white background.
