A Christmas still life made entirely of sweet things, with a gingerbread house and its lit windows in the middle and bursts of fireworks behind. The black ground sets off the pinks, reds and golds of the stitching and the unworked areas read as a night sky.
It is worked in counted cross stitch from a full-colour chart with symbols; the instructions come in English, German and French. Stitching on dark fabric is easier in good light, and a pale cloth or a lightbox under the hoop makes the holes much clearer. Once finished, the piece makes a framed picture to hang up for the festive season: the frame is not included.
