Zweigart's Aida band is a cotton ribbon woven with the same regular blocks as Aida fabric and finished along both edges, so it only needs cutting to length. It works for bookmarks, cake bands, jar covers, borders on towels and tablecloths, Christmas decorations and banners with names or dates; the blocks are clear and easy to count, which makes it a friendly format for beginners.
Stitch it in cross stitch and half cross stitch with stranded cotton, usually two strands for the crosses and one for backstitch, using a size 24 tapestry needle that slips between the blocks. Leave a few extra centimetres at each end for folding or attaching the band; a hoop is not needed, simply keep it taut between the fingers.
