Zweigart's Aida band is a narrow strip of Aida with woven, finished edges: it does not fray and needs no hemming, so it can be stitched and used as it is. The clearly formed blocks make counting straightforward, including for beginners, and the long, narrow shape suits repeating motifs – borders for towels, curtains and pillowcases, bookmarks, wraps for jars and flowerpots, ribbons and gift tags.
Two strands of stranded cotton are enough for the cross stitches and one for backstitch, worked with a size 24 tapestry needle. Mark the lengthwise centre with a line of tacking and start from the middle of the design; the band can then be slipstitched or machine-stitched in place.
