Description

Bellana is a cotton and modal evenweave with a soft handle and a clearly readable weave, so the threads are easy to count even in the darker colours. It suits stitchers moving on from Aida to evenweave fabrics and works well for framed pictures, samplers, cushions, table centres, pouches and small accessories made up after stitching.

Cross stitch is normally worked over two threads with two strands of stranded cotton; one strand is enough for backstitch and half cross stitch. The fabric also takes blackwork, counted stitches and small drawn thread borders. There is no need to pre-wash it: the cotton and modal blend is stable and presses easily. Leave at least 5 cm of spare fabric around the design for framing or making up.
