100% pure flax in an extre-fine linen (46ct), expressly conceived for any embroidery technique, looking for surprising elegance and for that incomparable touch of refinement and delicacy that have always been timeless.
Please note: natural fabrics such as linen and cotton are dyed in batches and come in different counts (with more or fewer threads per 1 cm in the case of linen and evenweaves, and more or fewer squares per 10 cm in the case of Aida). Different production batches and different counts may show color variations, even when the fabric is under the same color name. In the textile industry, this is considered completely normal, especially for so-called “vintage” or antiqued fabrics. Therefore, if your project requires a specific shade, we invite you to contact us before placing your order, also because the online image is purely indicative and may appear very different from reality, depending on the display which it is viewed on.

Before stitchingIt is worth washing the linen first, as it shrinks by about 3% on the first wash; if the piece is only to be framed, washing can be skipped. Apart from white and natural shades, never go above 35 °C
Washing after stitchingNever above 30 °C, with a mild soap for delicates (or Marseille soap) and no rubbing, so the threads do not bleed; rinse in plenty of cold water
Drying and ironingRemove excess water by rolling the linen in a clean towel and pressing, without wringing; dry flat, in the shade, away from heat sources. Iron while still slightly damp, from the back, on a medium-hot setting (linen/cotton), with a folded soft towel under the embroidery

Description

Bristol is a very fine evenweave linen for stitchers who are already comfortable with counted thread work and want small-scale pieces: cross stitch miniatures, little samplers, monograms and table linen finished with hemstitching and drawn thread borders.

Cross stitch over two threads gives about 23 stitches per inch, so a single strand of stranded cotton and a size 26 tapestry needle are enough. Working over one thread takes you into miniature territory, best tackled with good light and a frame. Wash the linen before stitching, as all linens shrink by around 3% the first time; if the piece is only going to be framed, this step can be skipped. Leave a generous margin around the design.
