Cashel Stripes is an evenweave linen crossed by tone-on-tone woven stripes that catch the light and give rhythm to the ground without making the threads harder to count. It suits stitchers with some experience of counted thread work: samplers, borders, lettering and decorative bands, towels, small bags and bookmarks, where the stripes can be used as a guide for lining up motifs.
Cross stitch is normally worked over two threads, with one or two strands of stranded cotton depending on the coverage wanted, and a size 26 tapestry needle. Wash and press the fabric before starting, as linen shrinks in its first wash, and allow a generous margin around the design for framing or hems.
