Dublin is a medium-weight evenweave linen with the slightly uneven surface typical of the fibre. It stays supple and is easy to sew by hand, so it suits both framed pieces and work that will be hemmed: tablecloth and napkin borders, small bags, samplers, bibs and cushions.
Cross stitch is normally worked over two threads, with one or two strands of stranded cotton depending on the coverage wanted, and a size 24 or 26 tapestry needle. It also takes hemstitching, drawn thread work, Hardanger and freestyle stitches. Wash the cut before starting and leave a few centimetres of margin around the design for finishing.
