100% pure cotton fabric with a structure divide into 8x8cm squares, alternating into two different kind of weave: one square corresponds to the traditional 14ct aida 55, while the other one is identical to the well-known Sulta cloth from this same manufacturer, which is a 22ct fabric (about 87 threads in 10 cm), perfect for embroidery techniques such as the Hardanger. This feature of alternated squares makes it a very special fabric that can be easily cross stitched and embroidered in Hardanger (or with other type of cutwork embroidery) to create unique and exquisite projects for us and our homes, such as tableclothes, bags, aghans, cushion covers and so on.

Please note: natural fabrics such as linen and cotton are dyed in batches and come in different counts (with more or fewer threads per 1 cm in the case of linen and evenweaves, and more or fewer squares per 10 cm in the case of Aida). In the textile industry, this is considered completely normal, especially for so-called “vintage” or antiqued fabrics. Before stitching	No need to wash it: cotton is stable and shrinks by no more than 1-1.5%. Overcast or finish the raw edges to stop them fraying
Washing after stitching	By hand, never above 30 °C, with a mild soap for delicates, without rubbing so the threads do not bleed; rinse in plenty of cold water
Drying and pressing	Remove excess water by rolling the fabric in a clean towel and pressing, never wringing; dry flat, in the shade. Press from the wrong side, with a folded soft towel under the embroidery

Description

Narvik combines two different weaves in one piece, arranged like a chequerboard in squares of about 8 cm: half of them have the blocked structure of Aida, the other half the paired-thread weave used for Hardanger, which takes kloster blocks and drawn thread work cleanly. It suits anyone who wants to alternate cross stitch and cutwork within the same project: tablecloths, runners, bags, afghans, cushion covers and borders.

On the Aida squares two strands of stranded cotton give good coverage, one strand for half cross stitch; for Hardanger use no. 5 perle for the kloster blocks and no. 8 or 12 perle for the fillings, with a size 24 tapestry needle. Finish the raw edges before starting, as the cotton frays where it is cut.
