Zweigart's Rustico Aida blends cotton, viscose and linen: the slightly uneven yarn gives the cloth a natural, homespun look that suits country designs, primitive charts and old-style samplers. The squares are still clearly formed and easy to count, so it is worked exactly like any other Aida, with cross stitch over one square, half cross stitch and backstitch.
The fabric has enough body for cushions, bags, little pouches, book covers, framed pictures and Christmas ornaments. Two strands of stranded cotton give full coverage, while one strand is enough for backstitch and fine details. Use a size 24 or 26 tapestry needle, and wash the fabric before stitching if the finished piece is going to be laundered.
