A very refined fabric, with 16 threads per cm approx., made with a highly soft and non-deformable mix of cotton (50%) and modal (50%). This is natural fiber produced from the pulp of beechwood, giving this fabric a truly stable and unique texture. The ideal choice for cross-stitching, drawn-thread embroidery and any needlework technique.

Before stitching	No pre-washing needed: cotton and modal are stable and shrink by no more than 1-1.5%. If you do wash the fabric, iron it while still damp before mounting the work
Washing and ironing after stitching	Hand wash, never above 30 °C, with a mild soap for delicates and no rubbing, so the threads do not bleed; rinse in plenty of cold water and remove excess water by rolling the work in a clean towel and pressing, without wringing. Dry flat, away from direct sunlight; iron on the wrong side with a soft folded towel under the embroidery

Description

Verdal is a fine evenweave with the same number of threads in warp and weft. The cotton and modal blend – modal is spun from beech cellulose – gives a soft handle and a stable weave that keeps its shape while you stitch, with threads that stay easy to follow. It suits small-scale work: biscornu, miniatures, pincushions, inserts for household linen and accessories, monograms, and free embroidery as well.

Cross stitch over two threads gives about 8 stitches per centimetre, so one strand of stranded cotton is enough; fine silk or a thin coton à broder work just as well, with a size 26 tapestry needle. Keep to fine threads for drawn thread work and backstitch. The fabric holds its tension nicely in the hand, without a frame.
