Twist is a cotton canvas with a leno weave: the warp threads twist around the weft, so the holes stay open and the mesh does not shift while you stitch. It is made for work that covers the ground completely — Bargello, upright Gobelin, half cross stitch and decorative filling stitches — on cushions, bags, cases, stool and chair covers, box tops and framed panels.
Coarser meshes take tapestry wool or no. 3 perle cotton; finer ones work well with perle no. 5 or four to six strands of stranded cotton and a size 24 tapestry needle. The thread should fill the hole, so test it in a corner first. Mounting the canvas on a frame keeps the work square, and cut edges can be bound with masking tape.
