Description

Zweigart Twist is a cotton rug canvas woven in leno weave: the paired twisted threads lock around the weft, so the mesh stays square and keeps its shape under the pull of heavy stitching. It is the usual ground for latch-hooked rugs and for rugs, cushions and bags worked in half cross stitch or Bargello, as well as for covering stitches such as upright gobelin.

A mesh this wide calls for thick yarn: rug wool, or several strands of tapestry wool. Work a test corner first to check that the canvas is properly covered. Use a large blunt tapestry needle and, ideally, a scroll frame, leaving at least 5 cm (2 in) all round for finishing.
