Candy Canes

A playful Christmas piece from an original artwork by Sally King: the shoe is built out of festive details, from the baubles scattered over the green upper to the candy cane heel. Cross stitch does most of the work, back stitch outlines the shapes and French knots add small raised dots, while the metallic threads catch the light on the decorations.

The cottons come pre-sorted by colour, so you can start straight away. You will only need a hoop or frame and a small pair of scissors; the frame shown in the photo is not included. The 16 count Aida has a fine weave, so good lighting helps. Once finished, it makes a cheerful picture to hang up each December.
