A pug seen up close, with its orange leather collar and a hint of meadow under its paws: the soft shading of the coat and the highlights in the eyes come from the gradual colour changes of the twenty stranded cottons, already sorted on the organiser so you can find each shade at a glance.
It is worked in counted cross stitch from the symbolic chart, usually with two strands on 14 count Aida; details such as the whiskers and the outline of the eyes are defined in backstitch. The frame is not included: you will also need a hoop or frame to stitch on, and for the finished piece a frame with a mount suits a portrait of this size well.
