A portrait of Jesus in warm sepia tones, worked entirely in counted cross stitch: the shading comes from many closely related browns and beiges, giving the face an almost photographic quality. The 14 count Aida has a clearly visible weave that helps keep track of the stitches even in the subtler areas.
The chart is printed with large squares and clear symbols, so the project is manageable without much experience, though the colour changes call for patience. A hoop or frame and good light make the stitching easier; the picture frame is not included and is best chosen once the work is finished, ideally plain and dark so it does not compete with the portrait.
