A gentle Madonna and Child to work in counted cross stitch on Aida: Mary's face bent over the baby, the white drapery and the blue mantle are built up in soft shading, while golden rays light the background. The large-square chart and the threads already sorted on the organiser keep the work straightforward, even with limited experience of counted work.
Aida 14 is usually stitched with two strands of stranded cotton; alongside the kit it helps to have a hoop or frame and a small pair of embroidery scissors. Once finished, wash the piece, press it on the reverse and frame it: the frame shown in the photo is not included.
