A ready-made runner, hemmed and with an inwoven border, with the field flowers printed straight onto the white cotton: you stitch over the printed design instead of counting threads. Alongside cross stitch there is long stitch and stem stitch for the stems and small details, which keeps the work varied without making it demanding.
The printed design is made to wash out, so once the embroidery is finished a simple wash leaves only the stitching on the fabric. A hoop or frame, moved along the runner as you go, makes the stitching easier. When it is done the runner is ready for the table or a sideboard, with no further sewing.
