Top-class needlework linen

From: Zweigart

the price indicated for this product will be applied only if you confirm your order within ::

Elegant fabric with the slightly irregular structure of the flax fibre (46 ct). Suited for most embroidery techniques. 100% linen.
Original Zweigart color: White
Similar to DMC white.
Please note: natural fabrics such as linen and cotton are dyed in batches and come in different counts (with more or fewer threads per 1 cm in the case of linen and evenweaves, and more or fewer squares per 10 cm in the case of Aida). Different production batches and different counts may show color variations, even when the fabric is under the same color name. In the textile industry, this is considered completely normal, especially for so-called “vintage” or antiqued fabrics. Therefore, if your project requires a specific shade, we invite you to contact us before placing your order, also because the online image is purely indicative and may appear very different from reality, depending on the display which it is viewed on.

Suggested techniquesFree embroidery: whitework, monograms, shadow work, stem stitch, satin stitch; counted thread stitches too, which come out slightly rectangular because of the non-square weave
Before stitchingIt is best to wash the linen before starting: every linen shrinks by about 3% in the first wash. If the piece is only going to be framed, washing can be skipped. Apart from white and natural shades, never above 35 °C
Washing after stitchingNever above 30 °C, with a mild soap for delicates or Marseille soap, without rubbing so the threads do not bleed; rinse in plenty of cold water
Drying and pressingRemove excess water by rolling the linen in a clean towel and pressing, never wringing; dry flat, in the shade, away from heat sources. Press while still slightly damp, with the iron on a medium-hot setting (linen/cotton), always from the back, with a folded soft towel under the embroidery
Sold asCut of 50 × 75 cm (19.7 × 29.5 in); multiples of the basic cut can be chosen from the drop-down menu below the price
Description

Bergen is a Zweigart linen with the slightly irregular surface typical of flax. The weave is not square: there are more warp threads than weft threads per centimetre, which is why the mill suggests it mainly for free embroidery – whitework, monograms, shadow work, stem stitch and satin stitch on tablecloths, runners, sheet borders, bags and small framed pieces.

It can also be used for counted work, bearing in mind that the stitches come out slightly taller than they are wide. Over two threads, one or two strands of stranded cotton and a size 26 tapestry needle are enough; free embroidery calls for a fine sharp needle instead. Wash the fabric before starting, as linen shrinks in the first wash, and allow a generous margin for hems and finishing.
