Brittney is an evenweave fabric in a cotton and modal blend: the modal gives it a soft handle and a slight sheen, while the regular weave makes the threads easy to count. Worked over two threads, cross stitch comes out the same size as on 14 count Aida, and the fabric also takes half cross stitch, backstitch, blackwork, Hardanger and small drawn thread borders – samplers, small framed pieces, ornaments, cushions and table linen.
Two strands of stranded cotton over two threads give full coverage; one strand is enough for backstitch and fine details. Mount the fabric in a frame or hoop and leave a generous margin around the design for finishing.
