A Home Is Many Things

A sampler packed with small scenes: cottages, a lighthouse, a castle, a caravan, armchairs and pans, pets, books and a sewing machine, all separated by stitched phrases about what happens inside a home. A space is left at the bottom for a name and address, and the chart includes an alphabet and numbers so the piece can be signed just like the model.

It is worked in counted cross stitch on evenweave Aida, with backstitch outlines and French knots for the details: the motifs are many and small, so a little experience helps. You will also need a hoop or frame and scissors; the picture frame is not included, but the finished piece makes a lovely new-home gift.
