Two bookmarks to work in counted cross stitch, with wintry subjects: a fox curled up among berries and stars, and a pair of birds on snowy branches, with white details that suggest falling snow. The edges are simply left fringed, as shown in the photo, so finishing is quick and needs no sewing.

The narrow format and short stitch count make this kit manageable even with little experience of counted work: there are few colours and the piece is easy to carry around. You will also want a small pair of embroidery scissors and, if you like to keep the fabric taut, a small hoop. Once finished, the pair makes a small gift to slip inside a book.
