The two most beloved needlework fibers - cotton (55%) and flax (45%) - combine together in this elegant and refined fabric, with that slightly, pleasantly irregular structure, that's typical of flax.
With its 18 threads per cm, this fabric is the ideal choice for all traditional needlework techniques, as well as for the finest cross stitch!

Please note: natural fabrics such as linen and cotton are dyed in batches and come in different counts (with more or fewer threads per 1 cm in the case of linen and evenweaves, and more or fewer squares per 10 cm in the case of Aida). Different production batches and different counts may show color variations, even when the fabric is under the same color name. Before stitching	Washing the fabric first is recommended: linen shrinks by about 3% in the first wash. For colours other than white and the natural shades do not go above 35 °C; if the piece is only going to be framed, washing can be skipped
Washing after stitching	Never above 30 °C, with a mild soap for delicates (or Marseille soap), without rubbing so the threads do not bleed; rinse in plenty of cold water
Drying and ironing	Remove excess water by rolling the fabric in a clean towel and pressing, never wringing; dry flat, in the shade, away from heat sources. Iron while still slightly damp, at a medium-high setting (linen/cotton), always from the back and with a folded soft towel under the embroidery

Description

Normandie blends cotton and linen into a fabric with a slightly irregular surface, the look of linen and a softer handle. The warp is denser than the weft, so the squares are not true squares: this is a ground for surface embroidery worked on a traced design, not for counted thread work. It suits tablecloths, runners, towels, sheet borders, monograms, whitework and small framed pieces.

Washing the fabric before stitching lets the shrinkage happen on the cloth rather than on the finished piece. Transfer the design with tracing paper or a water-soluble pencil and work in a hoop or frame: two or three strands of stranded cotton for outlines and satin stitch, perle cotton no. 8 or 12 for raised stitches, with a sharp-pointed needle. Leave a generous margin for hems and finishing.
