The squares of Tula Aida are large and clearly defined, so they can be counted at a glance: a practical choice for beginners, for stitching with children and for anyone working in poor light. The modal and cotton blend gives the fabric a soft hand and more drape than all-cotton Aida, which makes it suitable for cushions, bags, pouches and hanging decorations as well as for framed pieces.
Work cross stitch over one square with a size 22 or 24 tapestry needle; three or four strands of stranded cotton give good coverage, as does no. 5 perle cotton. Before starting, square the cut by following a thread and overcast the raw edges, which fray easily, and use a frame to keep the weave straight.
